Pre-Diabetes is a term used to describe chronically elevated levels of sugar in the blood; however, these levels are not high enough to diagnose someone with diabetes. At this time, lifestyle changes are recommended to reduce risk of diabetes development.
Diabetes is a chronic (life-long) disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. This can involve problems with the hormone insulin. Diabetes can occur when the pancreas produces very little to no insulin, and it can occur when the body is no longer responsive to insulin.
A medical condition involving impaired thyroid function. This is an endocrine gland, often butterfly-shaped, that is located below the cricoid cartilage (Adam's Apple) and above the manubrium of the sternum (mid-line of the chest). It requires iodine to make its hormones, and it works with the brain to maintain and regulate metabolism.
Thyroid function testing can help your doctor determine if dysfunction is occurring along the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis.
Also called high blood pressure, this is a measure of the force against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood throughout the body. Consistently high blood pressure can damage multipe organ systems and reduce quality of life.
According to the American College of Cardiology 2017 Guidelines, Hypertension diagnoses begin at Systolic pressure ≥130 mmHg or Diastolic pressure >80 mmHg. Keep a routine Blood Pressure log to give your doctor context when understanding your healthcare needs.
Some of the exams and conditions assessed include, but are not limited to, physical exams - to assess overall wellness, cardiovascular exams - to assess the health of the heart and blood vessels, osteoporosis - to gauge bone health, glaucoma monitoring - to determine rate of visual impairment, breast exams - to monitor and assess risk of breast cancer, prostate exams - to monitor and assess risk of prostate cancer, influenza (flu) testing - to provide care to affected patients and reduce spread to others, and pulmonary function - to maintain lung health.
Several conditions can cause or hinder weight gain or loss. Weight issues include the following: obesity, childhood obesity, eating disorders - anorexia, bulimia. Measures used to address healthcare needs include the BMI (body mass index), waistline circumference, and calorie-counting.
This is provided to help patients reach a state of optimal well-being; it is oriented toward maximizing everyone’s potential. Wellness Education encourages and inspires us to live a healthier lifestyle.
All patients are encouraged to maintain blood pressure logs, activity logs, and dietary logs or food diaries to help reduce risk of hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.
